May 2010

Preparations were made for the installation of the Jean Bart's stern frame. This spectacular 10 tonne piece was carved from the 300 year-old oak that came from the forest of Marly le Roi. This was to take place on Friday afternoon, 4th June, at the Tourville shipyard, where it had been carved. The event, presided over by the mayor of Gravelines, Bertrand Ringot, was to be preceded by the donation of a 15000 euro cheque by Mr J.P. Prouvost, president of the local marine savings bank, and by the launch of the partnership INTERREG "of two seas" (Heroes 2C) with the English Medway Queen Association and with the Belgian Steenschult Association.Information can be had by phoning 00-33-28-21-22-40 or emailling tourville@wanadoo.fr

April 2010

To hear a report about the felling of the much larger than usual tree trunk and the means devised for that purpose, one can refer to the report shown on local television on 16th April. This oak tree trunk of an extraordinary size (11m long, 2.10m diameter at the widest point),
cut down in Marly le Roi Forest near the palace of Versailles, was brought to the Tourville shipyard. One can also read the article published in the Nord Littoral paper on 10th April 2010 or look for the Delta TV programme broadcast by JT Culture on 14th April.

March 2010

Thanks to the Versaille Forestry Office, we have purchased a huge oak tree trunk, of an extraordinary size, that was felled in Marly le Roi Forest in mid 2009. In view of its size (11m long and 1.75m wide at the foot i.e. 24m3 and approximately 20 tonnes),

marly_le_roi.jpg

we had to find three benefactors to finance the purchase as well as lifting and transporting
it to Gravelines. 3 companies : Ball Packaging Europe Bierne (59) for the purchase, the Paris agency of Societe Dufour for the lifting, and Societe Gilliers Arques (62) for the transport all put a lot of effort into this achievement.
